What Is a Gearbox?

Imagine a machine… It has a powerful motor, but that power rotates too fast to be used directly. That is exactly where the gearbox comes into play.

A gearbox takes this high speed, reduces it, and in return provides much stronger torque. Just like on a bicycle: instead of pedaling faster in a small gear, shifting to a larger gear helps you climb a hill much more easily.

A gearbox is a mechanical power transmission component that takes the rotational motion received from the input shaft, slows it down through gear wheels, and transmits it to the output shaft at a lower speed but with higher torque.

How Does It Work?

 

An electric motor or another power source provides high-speed motion to the gearbox.

 

 The gears inside reduce the rotational speed.

 

As the speed decreases, the force increases.

 

The appropriate speed and power are obtained according to the machine’s needs.

While the electric motor rotates at 1500 rpm, a gearbox with a ratio of 1:50 reduces the output shaft speed to 30 rpm while increasing the torque by 50 times.
