Although gearboxes are durable machine components, various problems may arise as a result of improper use, insufficient maintenance, or unsuitable selection. If these issues are detected at an early stage, major failures and high maintenance costs can be prevented. Common Problems and Possible Causes

Overheating

Causes:

Insufficient or contaminated oil

Overloading

Insufficient ventilation

Solution: Check the oil level and improve cooling and ventilation conditions.

Abnormal Noise

Causes:

Wear on gear surfaces

Bearing damage

Incorrect assembly or misalignment

Solution: Check the gears and bearings, and verify the alignment settings.

Increased Vibration

Causes:

Unbalanced load

Shaft bending

Loose fastening elements

Solution: Tighten the mounting connections and check the shaft and load balance.

Oil Leakage

Causes:

Worn seals or gaskets

Overfilling with oil

Housing cracks

Solution: Replace the sealing elements and drain the excess oil.

Insufficient Torque or Power Loss

Causes:

Incorrect gear ratio selection

Gear wear

Slippage or breakage

Solution: Select a gearbox with the proper ratio and replace worn parts.

 Sudden Failure / Seizure
